Presenter Details The Introduction to Bobath modules will be delivered by Catherine Cornall. Catherine qualified as an IBITA Basic Course Instructor in 2000.  She works as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland in the Brain Injury Programme. 
The Basic Bobath Course will be delivered by Paul Johnston and Debbie Strang. 
Paul Johnson qualified as a physiotherapist in 1990 from Newcastle-upon-Tyne Polytechnic completing a Masters Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (Neurorehabilitation) from Teeside University in 2011. He currently works as an Advanced Physiotherapist within Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Paul qualified as an IBITA Basic course tutor in 2005 and as an Advanced course tutor in 2018.
Debbie Strang qualified from Queens College, Glasgow in 1986, and completed her MSc at Leeds Metro university in 2006. Debbie qualified as an IBITA basic course instructor in 2003, and as an IBITA advanced course instructor in 2016. Debbie currently works as an advanced physiotherapy practitioner within the Managed Clinical Network for stroke in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Introduction to Bobath Course

Module 1: Human Movement Analysis as a basis of clinical intervention – Friday 26th and Saturday 27th April
Module 2: The integration of postural control & selective movement for functional activities, Part A – Friday 27th and Saturday 28th September
Module 3: The integration of postural control & selective movement for functional activities, Part B – Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd November

The Modules will run on Fridays (2pm - 6.30pm) and Saturdays (9am - 5pm)

Learning Objectives
• To discuss movement analysis based on The Bobath Concept
• To explore and enhance skills of observation, analysis and facilitation of
normal movement
• To discuss the pathophysiology and consequences to the patient with
established movement dysfunction
• To build upon participants ability to analyse posture and movement
• To link the evidence base and clinical practice

Basic Bobath Course

Module 1: 13th – 15th July 2024 (Virtual)

Module 2: 11th – 15th September 2024

Module 3: 10th – 13th October 2024

Module 4: 25th – 27th January 2025

The National Rehabilitation Hospital is hosting a Basic Bobath Course which comprises  the first hybrid programme of this kind to be held with a combination of virtual (theory) and in person (practical) sessions to support therapists to take part.

This course has been designed in a modular format to support frontline healthcare professionals to participate and balance competing workloads.

Course Aims

The course will offer you the opportunity to;

– Gain an understanding of the neurophysiological basis underlying the current Bobath Concept.

– Develop your ability to use the current Bobath Concept in the assessment and treatment of patients with neurological dysfunction.

– Develop your skills of observation, analysis and facilitation of movement.

– Expand your clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

– Describe and measure consequences of neurological dysfunction and the impact that your rehabilitation intervention based on the Bobath Concept may have.

– Link the current evidence base and your clinical practice.
