I also hold qualifications in Physical Therapy, Orthopaedic Dry Needling, Craniosacral Therapy, Strength & Conditioning, and Sports Taping and Strapping. Apart from doing regular CPD here in Ireland, I typically travel to the UK about four times every year to train with various manipulative practitioners in order to enhance my own skills.
I have an extensive background in sports including athletics, boxing, triathlon and bodybuilding. Previous to becoming an osteopath, I served as an officer in the Irish Defence Forces, where I held a wide variety of appointments at home and overseas, including service in the Special Forces Unit of the Irish Defence Forces, The Army Ranger Wing.
All of these things, combined with a love for teaching others, give me a unique insight in the way I treat and teach.

This is half day live online course and is worth 4.5 CPD Hours. It's focused on what I believe is one of the most important skills any therapist can develop: the ability to take a thorough, structured case history and arrive at a working hypothesis.

Too often, case history taking becomes a box-ticking exercise that people rush to get the patient onto the treatment table. However, if you don't know what you're treating, everything that follows is guesswork.

Think about it this way: If you're a mechanic, you diagnose the fault before you start replacing parts. If you're a soldier on a navigation exercise, you study the map and plan your route before you set off. You don't just head off in a random direction and hope for the best.

As therapists, we should be no different.

On this course, I'll teach a structured approach to case history taking using systems such as SOCRATES and VINDICATE. We'll look at general health screening in detail, medications and their relevance to clinical practice, red flags, differential diagnosis, the importance of a proper clinical examination, and how to piece together the information patients give us to form a logical working hypothesis.

We'll also work through real clinical cases, discussing how the information gathered during the case history helps direct the physical examination and influences clinical decision-making.

The course comes with extensive notes, including detailed notes on medications as they are relevant to us, and sample case history forms that I've refined over years in practice.

My aim is to help you become more confident, more thorough, and ultimately more effective as a clinician.

Because if we don't have a working hypothesis, we're not really treating a condition—we're just guessing.

I hope you'll join me in September.
