Presenter Details Dr Clodagh Toomey is a Physiotherapist and Associate Professor at the School of Allied Health, University of Limerick. Clodagh completed her PhD at the University of Limerick in 2014 and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2017 at the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre, University of Calgary, where she also holds an adjunct position. Her clinical and research experience has focused on prevention and management of musculoskeletal disease across the lifespan. Most recently, she was a recipient of a Health Research Board Emerging Investigator Award, which is investigating how to optimise implementation of clinical guidelines for osteoarthritis in practice. Clodagh is the research lead on the Good Living with osteoArthritis Denmark (GLA:D®) initiative in Ireland.

The GLA:D (Good Life with osteoArthritis Denmark) initiative is an evidence-based exercise and education programme for patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis that has been delivered to over 170,000 patients globally, including Denmark, Canada, Australia, China, Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Finland and now, Ireland. This programme has shown effectiveness for improving patient outcomes (e.g. pain, function, quality of life) and cost-effectiveness in clinical practice. This course will allow physiotherapists across Ireland and across healthcare settings, to become GLA:D certified physiotherapists.

Course Location: Online modules with one face-to-face practical day at the University of Limerick, Co. Limerick.

Practical In Person Date: Saturday, August 22nd, 2026.

The online component for theory (6-7 hours) will be accessible over a 3-week period before the practical day and can be completed independently as long as it is all completed before Saturday, August 22nd.
