The Level 1 Foundations in Paediatric Bladder, Bowel & Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Programme is a comprehensive, physiotherapy-led training pathway designed to equip clinicians with the knowledge, practical skills and clinical reasoning required to assess and manage children and young people presenting with bladder, bowel and pelvic health dysfunction.

Unlike traditional continence courses, this programme takes a holistic physiotherapy approach, exploring the relationship between bladder and bowel function, pelvic floor health, breathing patterns, movement, behaviour, development and family-centred care.

Through a combination of structured online learning, live case discussions, practical skills training and ongoing mentorship, participants will gain the confidence to implement evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies immediately within clinical practice.

A Professional Development Pathway

This programme has been developed as the foundation level of a structured paediatric pelvic health learning pathway for physiotherapists.

Whether you are new to paediatric bladder and bowel dysfunction or looking to formalise and strengthen your existing knowledge, this programme provides the essential foundations required for safe, evidence-based clinical practice.

Participants completing the programme will have the opportunity to progress to future advanced training and mentorship programmes as they continue to develop their expertise in paediatric pelvic health physiotherapy.

What Makes This Programme Different?

This is more than an online course.

The programme has been designed as a guided learning and mentorship experience, allowing participants to progressively build their knowledge and skills while receiving ongoing support and clinical guidance.

New content is released weekly (starting Tue 4th Aug 2026) to allow participants time to engage with the material, complete activities, reflect on learning and begin applying concepts within practice. This structured format helps prevent overwhelm, encourages accountability and supports the development of clinical confidence.

Programme Structure

PHASE 1: GUIDED ONLINE LEARNING (WEEKS 1–11)

Participants will receive access to a new module each week.

PHASE 2: PRACTICAL SKILLS WORKSHOP (WEEK 12)

The programme culminates in an in-person practical workshop focused on translating theory into clinical practice. This will be held at Anatomy Physiotherapy clinic, Claremorris, Co. Mayo on Sat 24th October 2026.

Phase 3: Clinical Mentorship Online (Months 4–6)

Learning does not stop when the workshop ends.

All participants will receive three months of group clinical mentorship to support the transition from learning to clinical implementation.

This mentorship component is designed to help participants bridge the gap between theory and practice while building confidence as clinicians working in paediatric bladder, bowel and pelvic health. Beyond clinical skills, mentorship discussions may also explore practical aspects of service implementation, supporting clinicians to confidently establish and grow paediatric bladder, bowel and pelvic health services within their clinics and organisations.
